Design for reciprocity

MSc thesis by Shervin Tjon

This thesis dives into the concept of reciprocity in the context of the social currency 2Ping. Generalized reciprocity, which is “the exchange in which the giver does not expect an immediate return from the receiver”, normally occurs in close circles. Shervin investigated generalized reciprocity in the context of 2Ping. He investigates the questions: How can we reframe the purpose of a local currency system to a platform for doing social good? Through literature research, field research, ethnography and informal conversations, he created two designs: 1) a reframed and redesign of the 2Ping app interface and 2) a booklet for designers and pioneers of social change (see attachments).
