Energy coaching: a path to alleviating energy poverty in Amsterdam

MSc. Thesis by Luuk Tesselaar

Energy poverty is a complicated and urgent issue that can pose health and socio-economic impacts. To combat energy poverty in Amsterdam Southeast, energy coaches are active that provide immediate non-structural savings by giving behavioural advice and energy-saving products. Luuk explores energy poverty by reviewing its definitions and measurements methods and investigates energy poverty and related policies in the context of Amsterdam.

Luuk bases his research on the TNO energy poverty framework which aims to give a complete image of energy poverty based on seven indicators. The study is based on multiple qualitative methods: case study analysis, interviews, a survey and a focus group discussion.
