The Integration of Artificial Intelligence and the Influence Spatial Justice for Urban Planning

This research explores how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can transform urban planning and governance to promote spatial justice. It examines AI’s potential impact on citizen engagement, socio-economic accessibility, social housing, green infrastructure, and transportation in urban areas. The paper also highlights challenges such as data bias and the digital divide that must be addressed for equitable AI implementation. It emphasises the need for a balanced approach that combines AI capabilities with human involvement and underscores that offline social development will continue to shape urban environments. Ultimately, the paper calls for AI’s responsible and strategic use to create more sustainable and socially just urban environments.

This research was conducted by Leonore MacCreanor from the Delft University of Technology. In collaboration with Digital Urban Planning, the AI team and R&D, City of Amsterdam.
