SwS Festival 2024: VU Students Energy Transition

Here you can read the report of the VU students that focused on the energy transition, as discussed at the Science with Society Festival 2023.

A key focus of this project was to explore how residents who cannot pay high upfront
costs for renewable energy solutions, can participate in an energy cooperative. As it is not
always clear to what extent energy cooperatives offer a suitable solution for financially
vulnerable populations. The implementation of such initiatives in city areas with a diverse
population including residents who are in energy poverty where energy costs are a
substantial share income (such as in Amsterdam Zuidoost) is a multifaceted challenge that
extend across technical, economic, and social dimensions
