Reflection Prof. Dr. Caroline Nevejan (Chief Science Officer City of Amsterdam)

"Climate adaptation has huge impact on how we live together where we live
together what we can do and cannot do. The coming ESG framework is an opportunity for cities to engage in an other way with the private Partners in our territories in our regions in our cities in our villages. The current investment that cities need to do to keep the streets you know that there's no water flooding when there is a rain falling, that the urban heat is not too high, that people who live in small houses can handle the heat if it happens. So there are huge issues that climate change forces as challenges which are new in cities which have huge social impact on how people live together that we don't know how to fix sometimes but also if we know how we need really new partners to help us do it. So the private sector has to engage with the public sector and the Civic sector.

What's great is that we now have this new ESG framework and these new regulations in Europe where private sectors are acquired required to report on what they do on the social impact that they have the social impact that also has been affected a lot by the E by the environmental impact that's currently happening all over the globe and what you see is that this new framework offers an opportunity to engage in new Partnerships with new benefits both for the private sector and no benefits for the social sector and the cultural sector.

What I found really special to see in the last few days is that we have gathered a lot of practices a lot of insight and between all those practices you could really feel that
such an ESG for cities framework it will work and it will offer the opportunity that we hope. So I'm very happy and also want to thank all the colleagues who have engaged with us from the different cities all over the world, even Willemstad from Curacao was present and I look forward to do this with a lot of us in the future in the near future. We don't have so much time to develop this so yeah I look forward very much and I
hope you will engage with us because we need you like others need us."
