Ellen Bal

Ellen Bal teaches Anthropology at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology. She has taught various courses on issues such as ethnicity and nationalism, human security, diversity and multiculturalism, professional orientation, Modern Asian Studies, Asian history. Her current research interests revolve around the cultural construction of migration aspirations, transnationalism and human security. She has also carried out exensive research on indigenous peoples and minority issues in Bangladesh, with a particular focus on the Garos, and on the Indian diaspora to Surinam (and the Netherlands).
