Research into homeless young people and the approach of municipalities

Dicussed in City Council 19 July 2023

'Het Vergeten Kind' (forgotten child) conducted research among 71 young people who are (or have been) homeless. These young people are homeless for an average of eleven months. They often feel restless during that time. Some feel lonely or inferior, notice that they are outside society. 72% experience the situation as very hopeless. In the long term, many young people notice that their social network has become smaller due to their homelessness and that they have become anxious and have lost confidence in people.

The Forgotten Child is committed to children and young people who have many problems at home. For example, they have to deal with poverty, psychological problems and sometimes abuse or neglect. The situation can be so serious that children can no longer live at home with their parents. They also encounter problems in healthcare. These children and young people need attention, stability and continuity. And a home.
