Policy program 'A new start' to tackle homelessness (2021-2025)

Discussed in the Amsterdam City Counsil on 7 July 2021

The Policy Program Tackling Homelessness 'A new start' is the successor to the Social Shelter and Protected Housing 2016-2020 'At Home in the Neighborhood'. The evaluation of 'Thuis in de Wijk' is included in appendix 2. With 'Thuis in de Wijk' a movement of socialization and inclusion has already been initiated. The current, updated policy program will take further steps in this regard over the next four years. 'A new start' outlines the framework for supporting vulnerable residents of the Amsterdam-Amstelland region. This concerns residents who are or are at risk of becoming homeless, but also residents who need some form of shelter or support from sheltered housing. The program runs from 2021 to 2025. The ambition of this policy program is: everyone who becomes or is at risk of becoming homeless in the Amsterdam-Amstelland region will receive recovery support. This way they can more easily work on social and economic recovery.
