Measuring aircraft noise around Schiphol

In addition to sound, the experience is also measured

In this project, RIVM (National Institute for Public Health and the Environment) is investigating aircraft noise and the perception of aircraft noise together with citizens, in the context of the Programmatic Approach to Measuring Air Traffic (PAMV). There are 28 participants at 7 locations around Schiphol, divided into two groups that measure both sound and register the experience. The first group focuses on the impact of air traffic frequency and the periods between air passages (Respite). The second group focuses on the perception of aircraft noise by noise-sensitive citizens. If you are sensitive to noise, you are more likely to be bothered by aircraft noise. In studies of aircraft noise, this is often one third of the participants. Sound sensitivity is therefore quite common.

There was great interest in participating in this project. The 28 participants were selected from 147 registrations, who come from 7 different areas around Schiphol, some very close, others a bit further away.

Measurements have been taking place since the beginning of 2022. The measurement results are visible on the sites of Sensor.Community and Samen Meten.
