Research report EURO 2020 Amsterdam: Social impact measured in four studies

In summer 2021, the Netherlands hosted four 2020 UEFA European Football Championship matches, all
of which were played in Amsterdam’s Johan Cruijff ArenA. In October 2019, the City of Amsterdam
commissioned the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) to research the social impact of EURO 2020 on Amsterdam. This report combines the results of four impact studies conducted between May and August 2021. Each study investigated a different group that was directly or indirectly impacted by EURO 2020: Volunteers, citizens of Amsterdam, match visitors, and children that took part in a side-event. Semi-structured interviews and questionnaires were used to collect data from 1858 individuals. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the 32 semi-structured interviews with volunteers. The questionnaire answers from the three other groups were analysed using IBM SPSS Statistics.
