How would citizens preferably be informed about algorithms?

The City of Amsterdam uses algorithms for many municipal services. However, if used, what exactly do citizens would like to know about these algorithms? It is essential that we enable citizens to understand a decision based on the use of an algorithm and making it possible for them to object against decisions in which an algorithm participated. This publication provides the reader with practical tips to fullfil this request for information. This research and publication is founded on behalf of the consortium "Public control of algorithms" of which the municipality of Amsterdam is a member.
