Provisional State of the Global Climate 2023

Global temperatures in 2023 are set to make it the warmest year on record, surpassing 2016 and 2020. The past nine years, 2015–2023, mark the warmest consecutive years. Record-high monthly temperatures were observed in oceans and land. Greenhouse gas concentrations hit record highs in 2022, with real-time data indicating a continued increase in 2023. Ocean heat content reached its highest level in 2022, while global mean sea level hit a record high in 2023. Extreme weather events led to severe socio-economic impacts, affecting food security, population displacements, and vulnerable populations.
