King Willem-Alexander apologizes for the Netherlands' role in slavery

On 1 July 2023, during the National Commemoration of Slavery Past, King Willem-Alexander apologized in a speech for the slavery past of the Dutch state. In this historic speech, the king asked for forgiveness, because his ancestors did not intervene against the system at the time. The apology was received positively. At the National Monument to the Past of Slavery in the Oosterpark in Amsterdam, you felt the emotions that the apologies unleashed.
