Implementation program 30 km/h in the city

City council Amsterdam 25 January 2023

This implementation program follows the policy memorandum 30 km/h in the city that was established by the city council of Amsterdam on 24 December 2021.

The implementation program describes the measures and steps that follow to introduce the 30 km/h speed for Amsterdam. Until now, a speed of 30 km/h only applied in residential streets, the so-called access roads (ETW30). Because the city is getting busier and traffic safety and quality of life are under pressure, we opt for the advantages of a lower speed in many more places. By introducing 30 km/h in many more streets, we improve road safety and reduce noise nuisance. The car will be given a place that better suits the urban residential climate. For good traffic flow and accessibility of the city, these streets will not become ETW roads, but distributor roads, the so-called GOW30 roads.
