Letter to Parliament about preliminary considerations for government organizations when using generative AI

State Secretary Van Huffelen (Digitalization and Kingdom Relations) informs the House of Representatives about her provisional position for government organizations when using generative AI.

The Dutch government is considering exploring the use of generative AI, such as ChatGPT, to tackle labor shortage. A quick review shows that officials are already experimenting with this technology, but there are also concerns about privacy, copyright and other risks. The preliminary position emphasizes responsible use and legal compliance. A government-wide vision is being developed and concrete steps, such as pilots and training, are proposed. The final position is expected after further experience and ethical considerations.
