The Netherlands eScience Center is the Dutch national center of excellence for the development and application of research software to advance academic research.
We are convinced that research in every academic discipline can be improved by taking advantage of available digital technology.
We take a multidisciplinary approach, combining our deep knowledge of both academic research and software development to help define and solve research challenges. We share our ideas and the tools we develop. Together with a wide range of partner organizations, we advance not just our research projects, but the state of academicresearch in general.
In 2015 we developed our strategy for the coming years, which you can download here:
ADS accelerates data science and artificial intelligence research by connecting, sharing and showcasing world-class technology, expertise and talent from Amsterdam on a regional, national and international level. Our research enables business and society to better gather, store, analyse and present data in order to gain valuable insights and make informed decisions.
We invite you to:
On a monthly basis, we organise ADS Coffee and Data (general research events) and Deep Dive (on a more focussed research topic). Please sign-up to our MEETUP for more details. The popularity of our events has enabled us to establish a very active Meetup community of over 6000 members.
We are always seeking new collaboration opportunities to share knowledge, broaden our expanding network of researchers, and be inspired by data-intensive problems. Please connect and get in touch with ADS:

Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) is the national research institute for mathematics and computer science in the Netherlands. Founded in 1946, CWI is part of the Institutes Organisation of NWO, NWO-I. While located at Amsterdam Science Park, the institute has strong international links, and enjoys a global reputation for its innovative research.

The Amsterdam Machine Learning Lab (AMLab) conducts research in the area of large scale modelling of complex data sources. This includes the development of new methods for probabilistic graphical models and nonparametric Bayesian models, the development of faster (approximate) inference and learning methods, deep learning, causal inference, reinforcement learning and multi-agent systems and the application of all of the above to large scale data domains in science and industry (“Big Data problems”).
AMLab is co-directed by Max Welling and Joris Mooij. Other faculty in AMLab include Ben Kröse (professor at the Hogeschool Amsterdam) doing research in ambient robotics, Dariu Gavrila (Daimler) known for his research in human aware intelligence and Zeynep Akata (scientific co-director of Delta Lab and co-affiliated with Max Planck Institute for Informatics) doing research on machine learning applied to the intersection of vision and language.
