Knowledge Center (In)equality - An (un)secure existence in the city
Which citizens of Amsterdam are in a vulnerable position? This fact sheet outlines the situation of three groups that are often insufficiently secure of work and income: young adults aged 18 to 21, single parents with minor children and 50 to 66 year olds. Due to changes in their situation, such as the transition to adulthood, divorce or illness, they run great risks of insecurity. This applies all the more to people of Amsterdam without basic qualifications. In addition to education, other characteristics are also discussed, such as gender, household composition and migration background. Which groups in Amsterdam have the highest vulnerability score, based on income, education, work and health? And who is most affected by high housing costs or problematic debts?
The figures in the factsheet show that for the three target groups of the study – young adults aged 18 to 21, single parents with minor children and people aged 50 to 65 – education and income are the main inequalities. In addition, single people often have a harder time than couples. There are specific problems per target group. These are explained in the conclusion on page 12.
With the answers to these questions, this fact sheet forms one of the components of the program A (un)secure existence in the city of the Knowledge Center on Inequality. As part of this programme, the fact sheet has been drawn up by Research and Statistics (O&S) of the municipality of Amsterdam.
