Lab 2: Sustainable renovation of homes
With the large-scale renovation and construction plans in Southeast and the further development of Amstel III, partners in Southeast are working on opportunities to link these developments to social and economic challenges in Southeast. Making the existing city more sustainable is one of the biggest challenges in this respect.
In 2019, the first facade project in Reigersbos (280 homes) was started in the developing neighborhoods together with the EU (Climate-KIC). The aim is to renovate 10,000 homes in Amsterdam using this approach in an energy-neutral manner. Various renovation packages are offered, with choices for renewing the facade, the heat supply and the installation of solar panels. In addition to benefits in terms of sustainability, the renovation offers great potential for increased living comfort and a better living environment in the home. This approach is also aimed at increasing the socio-economic position of the residents by saving on energy consumption and maintenance with the renovation and by keeping housing costs at least neutral.
