Summer Programmes Graduate School of Social Sciences

We are proud to bring together academics and professionals in our programmes, creating a dynamic and inviting classroom environment that doesn’t shy away from asking big questions, confronting norms, and seeking productive and creative responses to today’s problems. That’s because our summer programmes are more than just school: they give participants the skills and viewpoints necessary to understand the diversity, complexity, and changing nature of the world today.

More information

Areas of expertise: Over the past 25 years, we have specialized in offering programmes in the social and behavioural sciences. Topics include sexuality studies, urban planning and sustainability, migration & integration, branding, mobility, the right to the city, addiction studies and social health sciences, as well as multilateralism, mindfulness and esotericism. For our full range of current programmes, visit our website. We also offer online winter programmes in a wide variety of topics, bringing best-practices from Amsterdam and around the world to people in the comfort of their own home.

Global reach: Our students work on diverse projects that effect not only life in Amsterdam, but in cities around the world. Due to the fact that every year we bring hundreds of students to Amsterdam or to our digital classrooms to learn from and study in the city, we can offer unique perspectives on local research projects with a global twist.

Our participants: Over the years, the reach of the Summer Programmes Office has grown exponentially. With growing knowledge of our programmes comes the widening of our academic and social network. Each year, we are proud to receive numerous applications from every continent, corner, and region of the globe. Due to increased globalization, technological advancements and the newfound and tenuous hybridity between the local and the global, our students come from diverse backgrounds, and bring their academic and cultural traditions with them whether they’re from Boston or Bangkok.

Age: We also offer Pre-University Honours Programmes which are designed for high school students (16 +) who are interested in gaining knowledge in different theoretical fields such as international relations, business, sustainability, media and journalism or politics and identity. This on-campus summer programme will bring together high school students from across the world. Participants in the course will develop study skills and become acquainted with learning methods that will give them an advantage as they continue their education at university.

Research and development: We are passionate in crafting new and dynamic educational courses that resonate with the ever-changing needs of students and the evolving landscape of knowledge. This commitment fuels the creation of innovative summer programmes with a focus on interdisciplinary learning and real-word applications. Therefore our offerings change annually .
