Welcome to my neighborhood: TEAMsterdam

Cross-Boundary Collaboration Program

Amsterdam is participating in an international programme 'Cross-Boundary Collaboration', facilitated by Bloomberg and Harvard. A team of eight people, civil servants, entrepreneurs and residents have been sent by the mayor to work on the challenge below:

Social problem and scope
Amsterdam Noord has been historically underserved. The city believes that disinvestment in the
Noord district’s public spaces, coupled with inadequate housing, health, and career opportunities,
have contributed to residents’ feelings of disenfranchisement and mistrust towards the government.
The mayor aims to empower the neighborhood’s grassroots organizations and invest in local socio-economic development that creates social and fiscal wealth benefits for the entire community.

Opportunity for collaboration
The city’s planning and community development departments are engaging with multiple community-led cooperatives, community activist groups, and individual initiatives. The city sees an opportunity to actively solicit resident input, provide space for entrepreneurial projects, and demonstrate that the city cares deeply for this neighborhood
