Food Strategy Implementation Agenda 2023-2026

Municipal Council December 21, 2023

We are in the middle of a climate crisis. Large parts of the world are already feeling the consequences of climate change and our large climate and ecological footprint is partly responsible for this. Amsterdam wants to reduce CO2 emissions by 60% by 2030 compared to the reference year 1990. The government has also increased the target to 60% at a national level. Together with residents, companies and institutions, we work intensively to create a city in which we save as much energy as possible and only use sustainable energy. In concrete terms, within the Food Strategy, we work to reduce CO2 emissions by combating food waste (50% in 2030), returning leftover food to the food system, reusing organic residual flows, encouraging the consumption of plant-based food and ensuring for more locally and sustainably produced food (25% in 2030) for a fair price on the Amsterdam market. We make the city greener and healthier for Amsterdam residents and adapt to the changing climate where possible.
