The Ideal(s) City
Amsterdam, just like other cities, faces several urban challenges, whereof most of these are intertwined. The Ideal(s) City project untangles these urban challenges and uses the ocean of information that is already available to gain new insights.
On these slides you will find more information about the Ideal(s) City project. Here you will find, among other things, the reason for the project, the seven ideals that have been derived so far from coalition agreements of Amsterdam and the team that makes up the project.Presentation by Lieke Dreijerink, AMS Institute.

Summary
It is said that Amsterdam is unique. For example, in the 1998 program agreement we read: “Amsterdam is an exceptional city.” The 2010 program agreement also states “Amsterdam is different and always surprises.” In this document we look for the ideals of Amsterdam: does the city of Amsterdam pursue its own specific ideals and what are these ideals? (A follow-up question could be whether these ideals are different from other cities or places in the Netherlands.) To find out what Amsterdam's ideals are, we focus on the coalition agreements from the more recent past. Because coalition agreements are written in terms of ambitions and visions for the city, they seem suitable for finding ideals.
