During the Transdisciplinary Global Health Challenge of the VU, students wrote a literature review in collaboration with the Medical Committee Netherlands-Vietnam on gender (in)equality and food and nutrition security in rural Vietnam.

The literature review aimed to gain a better understanding of food security in relation to
the SEFs of gender roles and income. To support the MCNV's efforts in reducing food insecurity and
to offer new insights, the literature review compared the MCNV’s data (2020-2023) with external yet
relevant articles, highlighting that gender roles and income play an important role in shaping food
security. In order to improve FNS, the literature review analysed the barriers of SEFs, and reviewed
the current interventions from the MCNV by comparing it to similar interventions in literature.
