Everyone, regardless of age, should have equal opportunities to develop and participate fully in society. For the elderly, it means they can live independent lives without discrimination, isolation, poverty, neglect or abuse. Unfortunately, this is less self-evident than it seems. Especially when the elderly become vulnerable due to reduced self-reliance, problems with physical or mental health and at the end of life.
