Evaluatie van de klinische en microbiologische effectiviteit van (niet) behandelen van Mycoplasma genitalium in mannen met NGU in relatie tot antibiotica-resistentie.

Mycoplasma genitalium (MG) is a sexually transmitted bacterium that can cause urethritis in men. Non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU) causes discomfort but is not dangerous. MG is rapidly developing antibiotic resistance to azithromycin (MRAM), the standard treatment for NGU. The only alternative treatment is moxifloxacin, a last resort antibiotic that is prescribed as little as possible in the Netherlands so that it can still be used for life-threatening infections. Most MG infections are asymptomatic and can probably resolve spontaneously.
The proposed study investigates whether NGU caused by MG with or without MRAM can clear spontaneously, without the use of (last resort) antibiotics.
