First meeting - Science for the City Roundtable (21 and 22 February)
In collaboration with JRC, RTD and DG Reggio, with Charlena Vitcheva, DG JRC and, Patrick Child, deputy director Researcn & Innovation of the EU Commission at the time, the City of Amsterdam has invited a variety of cities to participate in an exploration of Science in the City. Invitations were sent to participants in the Innovation Action Award program, to Chief Technology Officers of different cities, to active members in the Horizon programs. Participants had different positions in the local government, yet all were engaged with making collaborations between local universities with municipalities successful. During the meeting all cities presented their role in these collaborations. In several workshops the dilemmas with which CSO’s are confronted, were formulated. As a result, a second meeting was orchestrated after which the first CSI report on City Science for Urban Challenges was created.
The City Science Initiative (CSI) is a self-organising ‘third space’ in which cities, networks and different DG;s of the EU Commission reflect together on research for urban challenges and how to make this work. Since 2019, the CSO of Amsterdam has chaired the CSI.
