The transitionary rhythm zone of Kikkenstein looks at a quite busy area which engages with gathering and shopping, as well as the inactive green rhythms. This area faces problems on different levels. The first is the most public level, at the combination of gathering and shopping. The issue that is often observed here is with the garbage cans and underground containers, which are most of the times full or blocked. Since it is at a quite public area, many visitors of the mall, as well as the shop owners use the underground container to throw away their trash. This type of container is not designed for this purpose, so it easily gets blocked. As a result, people start tossing their trash at the surroundings of this container.
Furthermore, the combination of shopping and gathering rhythms also creates pressure at the parking lot, where many of the drinks and food that are bought from the shopping area are consumed inside the people’s cars. There are not many trash cans here, but neither a suitable place for food consumption.
Moving towards the right, the combination of transitionary and gathering rhythm zones creates problems for the transitionary. The underground containers at this zone are very often blocked as a result of this. Many times birds come by here to open the garbage bags and take out the food, spilling around at the same time all sorts of things. During the day, there are men hanging out at the doors of the Kikkenstein block’s storage spaces, and they toss their cigarettes at the corners of the building. The activity of hanging out is quite suitable in relation to the gathering rhythms, however, there is no option of garbage collection (like one where cigarettes can tossed) in this area.
