In Masterton, New Zealand

This research investigates the feasibility of composting business food waste in Masterton, New Zealand. The findings of this study align with New Zealand's waste strategy, which aims to achieve a fully circular waste economy by 2050. The study explores the current state of food waste management in Masterton through interviews, a literature review, and a policy review, and it analyzes the role of different stakeholders in food waste management. The research further looks at other composting projects in New Zealand that manage food waste at the municipal level and examines the obstacles that need to be addressed to make composting happen and possible methods for doing so. Local demand for composting is investigated with semi-structured interviews with local business owners. The study concludes with recommendations and limitations for future research.
