Committee on Social, Economic and Democratization Oct. 4, 2023

Examples abound: from people organizing "something" like a neighborhood party or clean-up action, and still others setting up longer-term neighborhood initiatives, civic initiatives and collective actions. From initiatives in food solidarity and urban agriculture for and by the neighborhood to computer classes and clothing exchanges, from energy and housing cooperatives to all kinds of financial solidarity networks such as bread funds, cash monies and (in)formal care networks. This social movement is growing, internationally, in the Netherlands and in the city. With the exploration AmsterDOEN, on September 14, 2022 in the council (discussed), we provide a number of examples and themes in which Amsterdammers, or rather: AmsterDOENers, are visible and active in the city: in the generation of renewable energy for example, in (partial) mobility, and also in food and urban agriculture, in free space, health, urban development and diverse social initiative. With the conclusion also that there is more than what was mentioned in the exploration: also in waste and circular economy, in housing, data, education, climate and reception of newcomers AmsterDOENers are active.
