About SURF

SURF is the cooperative association of Dutch educational and research institutions in which the members combine their strengths. Within SURF, we work together to acquire or develop the best possible digital services, and to encourage knowledge sharing through continuous innovation. The members are the owners of SURF. The association offers various services. One of them is SURFconext.

SURFconext

SURFconext, provided by SURF, is a federated identity management service for secondary vocational-, higher education and research in the Netherlands. With SURFconext, users can authenticate at cloud-services using their institutional account. This offers new possibilities for collaboration, within institutions and across institutional boundaries. On the SURFconext IdP dashboard you can see which services have a technical link with the SURFconext platform.

You can access services offered via SURFconext directly or via the portal of your institution. Logging in is always done with your institution account. This is easy and safe; you do not have to create a username and password with every service provider. In addition, SURFconext offers Strong Authentication. Your institution may choose to activate this for certain services with sensitive data, so that you log in to these services with your institution account (something you know) and a second factor (something you have).

Login, personal data and two-factor authentication

Want to know more about the SURFconext login, the way your personal data are handled, or how  SURFsecureID works? Then go to the SURFconext support pages. Service providers and ICT-experts can also consult the SURFconext-wiki and  SURFconext service description.

If you need help with getting SURFsecureID in your organisation, then SURF kan show you how other institutions have implemented this. SURF also has communication tools for you to use. More information here.

Societal and political involvement

SURF writes position- en informationpapers on a regular basis. The association takes position about subjects relevant for governers, policy makers and politicians. These papers form references for conversations with them. You can find the papers from 2016 onwards on the SURF website.
