Survival strategies and self-management behaviour in children with paediatric obesity and how professionals can empower and support them.
The focus of this study is to understand survival strategies and which factors contribute to self-management behaviour in children with paediatric obesity their family and how professionals can empower and support them.
During my work with children with obesity, i became overwhelmed by the complexity of their problems, but also encouraged by the strength and willpower of these children. I see families with young children with obesity struggling to maintain healthy behaviour, but there are also children who seem to manage quit well. What makes it possible or impossible for a child with obesity to maintain a healthy lifestyle, stabilize or even lower his or her BMI?
My goal is to give children a voice in research, policy, advocate for child participation in care (treatment, therapy) and explore children’s unique knowledge and contribution to the concepts of self-management behaviour and paediatric obesity.
