Exploring eastern inner city

City council Amsterdam 26 January 2022

Between Weesperplein, Waterlooplein and Oosterdok lies a collection of special neighbourhoods. Compared to the rest of the city centre, they are green and relatively sheltered. At the same time, no part of Amsterdam is so mercilessly intersected by traffic roads, with all the associated quality of life problems.

The future of these roads is now being considered. A different position of the car offers the chance to correct past mistakes and unify this part of the city. This is of great significance for the residents and users of these streets and the surrounding neighbourhoods.

This exploration is part of the Pilot Knip Weesperstraat. The results of the pilot will partly determine the choices made by the city council to make the Eastern Inner City less car-free.
