Partner knowledge institutions

Urban Cycling Institute (UvA)

Cycling is a simple means that connects to a wide range of very complex problems and challenges of contemporary cities. It is intertwined with many aspects of urban life in all its richness and complexity. Academic attention for this has been very limited. A more structured approach is needed to map these complex relations, understand best practices and foster reciprocal learning between research and practice.

The mission of the Urban Cycling Institute is:

  1. Taking a multidisciplinary approach to understanding the intricate web of causes and effects of urban cycling.
  2. Balancing a critical academic stance with a pragmatic practice-oriented approach of developing and disseminating knowledge
  3. Providing a fertile ground for sharing knowledge and learning about urban cycling on all levels of the academic curriculum

Mobility (HvA)

Mobility in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (MRA) is becoming increasingly complex. This is due to the strong growth in population, workers, students and visitors. How do we keep the city accessible and how do we ensure emission-free transport? This is one of the four challenges that Urban Technology is researching. The research contributes to the MRA's target for emission-free transport by 2025.

Smart Urban Mobility (AMS)

As the number of people living and working in Amsterdam’s metropolitan area continues to rise, so do issues of congestion, crowded streets, misalignment of public transport’s supply and demand, and air pollution. In this collection on openresearch, all the running AMS-institute projects concerning concerning Smart Urban Mobility are showcased.
