Project outline:
In the Nieuwe Diep at Flevopark, the soil is polluted with, among other things, copper. The city of Amsterdam has a task to clean polluted water so that it can be used for swimming. Water that can be use for swimming need to be of a certain quality (Whvbz en Bhvbz). Bioremediation is a process whereby remediation of contaminated soil is stimulated by the natural process of biological attenuation by creating ideal living conditions for micro-organisms responsible for degradation of the contamination. Often there is a lack of availability of the right nutrients in the soil to remove a contamination microbiologically. Some of the questions that should be ansewerd are:
What contaminates the soil? Which plants / animals are present now? What options are there for bioremediation to achieve bathing water quality?
