Het Mulier Instituut is een onafhankelijke en landelijk opererende stichting, die werkt zonder winstoogmerk. Het doel van het Mulier Instituut is de bevordering van de sociaal-wetenschappelijke kennisontwikkeling en beleidseffectiviteit op het terrein van sport.
"My overarching research interests center on questions of social cohesion, conflict and social change. I have two established fields of research that address these questions: the sociology of sport and the sociology of terrorism. The bulk of my recent research focuses on socio-cultural aspects and impacts of sport, with a particular focus on mobility, community development, cultural diversity, social exclusion and violence. I have a strong interest in using qualitative and ethnographic research methods to explore diverse population groups’ lived experiences as well as the mechanisms and processes that affect those experiences at micro, meso and macro levels." De afdeling Sport van de gemeente Amsterdam participeert in de leerstoel Sportsociologie aan de UvA voor vier jaar, met als centraal thema de sociale betekenis van sport in superdiverse steden als Amsterdam. De volgende 3 thema’s staan centraal:
- het bevorderen van maatschappelijke participatie en integratie van kwetsbare groepen in en door sport;
- de rol van sport bij preventie van radicalisering en criminalisering;
- het stimuleren van een veilig sportklimaat en de preventie van geweld op en rond velden
