Doutje Lettinga

Since June 1st 2025, Dr. Doutje Lettinga has succeeded Prof. dr. Caroline Nevejan as the Chief Science Officer of the City of Amsterdam. In this capacity she orchestrates research between the municipality of Amsterdam and the different scientific, academic and applied universities in the city as well as other knowledge partners. Her role is to strengthen the city’s knowledge infrastructure, foster innovation and ensure policy is grounded in evidence and different forms of knowledge.

With her work experience as a researcher, strategist and manager in academia, public policy and international (non for profit) organizations, Doutje is well equipped to drive cross-sector and cross-border collaboration, connect science with public policy, and turn knowledge into impact. With a PhD in sociology, master’s degrees in history and political science, and expertise in human rights law, Doutje has an interdisciplinary background that serves her well in this role. Her steadfast commitment to scientific integrity, diversity of thought, and social impact resonates with the Municipality of Amsterdam’s vision to drive evidence-based solutions that enhance democratic governance, inclusive welfare and societal resilience.
