Gain insight into the water balance of the Amsterdam Forest through a groundwater monitoring network

The Amsterdam Forest must become a climate-proof forest in the coming years. Because of the little available information about the water balance of the forest, the first step is to collect data. The City of Amsterdam has asked Stantec B.V. to create a setup for a groundwater monitoring network in the Amsterdam Forest and monitor it for at least one year.

Conclusion:

In groundwater, ammonium, total-nitrogen, iron and arsenic (locally) exceed the relevant threshold values for brackish groundwater. The parameters nitrate and total phosphorus do not exceed the threshold values. Groundwater was assessed based on threshold value methodology. The final assessment of groundwater quality in the Amsterdamse depends on the desired ecosystem protection goal. It is important to emphasize that the results of the next round of sampling will also be important for interpretation. Only after multiple measurements can we get a complete and accurate picture of the groundwater quality in the Amsterdam Forest.
