**Who Controls the Digital World?**
The European Union has ambitious plans to regain control over the digital sphere. Often seen as a step toward digital sovereignty and better governance for our online society, how solid is this strategy? From a republican perspective, this article highlights a critical risk: the heavy reliance on major tech companies. This influence leaves too much of our digital infrastructure shaped by Silicon Valley ideals. The article argues for a fresh approach, with greater emphasis on alternatives like digital commons and public media platforms. This way, Europe can create a fairer and more sustainable digital landscape.
