1. District researchers

"Behind me you can see the Kolenkit, the Cruyff Court on the Kolenkit in Amsterdam-West. This is a place where you can play for meeting and to organize neighborhood activities.

But also this is the Cruyff Court is in West. A place full of garbage garbage nuisance, unsafe traffic situations and also a lot of nuisance from young people in the neighborhood.

On a square like this all the problems of the district actually come together. You look for a liveable situation. Safety, but also the design of the public space and also the socio-economic side.

Why are young people on the streets? Is it because they have no place to do homework at home, for example? Or because they have no means to buy a sports season ticket?

As a district researcher, you try to include all these facets and connect the different domains. You act as a kind of feeler of the neighborhood, so to speak. On the basis of insights and data, you try to serve as a starting point for the conversation, to visualize the tasks of a neighborhood or a square by street. As a researcher, you don't do that alone. You do that with all your colleagues, both inside and outside the municipality. Together with the people on the street, they act a bit like the feelers in the neighborhood.
